Frequently Asked Questions

What does the HCHSAA do?

The HCHSAA exists to organize the alumnae/i of the school to further the schools activities. This includes providing financial support int he form of endowment funds and grants for libraries, laboratories, theater, dance, music, art, and academic programs, as well as scholarships, fellowships, and student aid programs, among much else that enhances the education of the current students of the school. We also sponsor educational, scientific, literary, and cultural programs in cooperation with the school, for both the current student body and the wider alumnae/i community. Moreover, we serve the alums of HCHS by providing a social and professional network for alums, thereby fostering connection across class years. For more information, see our Mission.

Who is on the Board of Directors of the HCHSAA?

The Board members are volunteer HCHS alumnae/i. This year, the Board has 24 members from the classes of 1946 to 2000. All members of the current Board live in the greater New York City area. For a complete list, see the Board page

How do I join the HCHSAA Board of Directors?

Every spring, the HCHSAA seeks applications for new Board members. Interested alums (only those who have graduated from the school) need to submit a resume and statement of interest.  They will be contacted by a current Board member for an interview. The number of available positions varies from year to year since terms are staggered. For more information, visit our Get Involved page.

Are there other ways to participate as an alumnae/i?

Yes. Alumnae/i can serve on one of those board committees open to non board members: Programs, Gala, and Communications; be a class coordinator; head up a regional chapter; or become an Alumni Ambassador. Descriptions of these positions can also be found at Get Involved.

What are the ways I can donate to HCHS?

You can make a gift by credit card online, by check, or with stock. Gifts may be directed to the program, department or special need you prefer, or they can remain unrestricted. Unrestricted gifts allow us to direct gifts to where they are most needed. More information about making a gift, as well as detailed information about planned giving can be found on our Support the Association page. The HCHSAA is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

How is the HCHSAA different from the HCHS PTA?

The HCHS PTA membership is comprised of parents of current HCHS students and raises money to fund school activities such as clubs, sports teams, etc. The HCHSAA membership is comprised of alumnae/i of the high school. While one of its functions is fund raising, the HCHSAA also creates and sustains a social and professional network for alumnae/i.

What is the relationship between Hunter College, Hunter College High School, and Hunter College Elementary School?

The elementary and high schools collectively comprise the Hunter College Campus Schools. The HCCS is overseen by a director who also is the principal of the elementary school.  The high school has its own principal. The Campus Schools are under the jurisdiction of Hunter College; they are not part of the New York City Department of Education.

How do I contact the HCHSAA?

Can the HCHSAA give me the contact information of a classmate?

Unfortunately, no. You can, however, access the official Online Directory to look up alumnae/i who are registered there, or you can contact the office and we can try to reach out to them for you.
